Clerk & Comptroller Recognized for Outstanding Financial Reporting
By Richard Iavarone, Director of Accounting Services, Clerk & Comptroller

The Clerk & Comptroller’s office continues to earn recognition for superior financial reporting.  Checks & Balances: Your Guide to County Finances, the office’s first-ever citizens’ report on Palm Beach County revenue and spending, received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting (PAFR) from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).  The easy-to-read guide, which helps the non-financial reader understand how County funds are managed and spent, also received a Silver 2007 Spotlight Award from the League of American Communications Professionals, which recognizes best-in-class practices in communications.

Checks & Balances contains condensed and simplified financial information from the much more detailed Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the Fiscal Year Ended September 30, 2006, also produced by the Clerk’s office.  Incidentally, the CAFR has been awarded the GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 18 consecutive years.  “We’re honored to once again be recognized by such a highly-respected association as the GFOA,” Clerk Sharon Bock said.  “This continuing run of achievement in financial reporting speaks highly of our entire Finance team here at the Clerk & Comptroller’s office.”  The GFOA, a nonprofit professional association with approximately 16,000 government finance members, offers benchmarking and analysis of public accounting practices and documentation.

Richard A. Iavarone brings more than 25 years of experience in accounting and financial reporting to the Clerk & Comptroller’s office. He holds a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree and a Master’s in Business Administration.
