Mission Statement
The County Criminal Court Services section provides a variety of services to both internal and external customers. The main functions of this department are to attend court sessions and accurately record court action, maintain court and case files, process court related documents, provide copies of same to parties during each court session and perform file retention per Florida statutes.
The County Criminal Court Services section handles cases scheduled for first appearances, arraignments, infractions, ordinance violations and non-jury and jury trials. Each courthouse is responsible for hearing cases occurring within the proscribed geographical jurisdictions pursuant to administrative Order number 2.006-11/96*.
The following outlines the types of hearings heard at each location:
Central Courthouse:
Seven County Criminal division judges hear all post-arraignment hearings for traffic crimes and misdemeanors including jury and non-jury trials. Two of those divisions are dedicated to hearing every misdemeanor level domestic violence case occurring in Palm Beach County except for West County domestic violence cases.
Hearings for animal, marine, or traffic infractions, parking citations, county and municipal ordinance violations.
South County and North County Courthouses:
- Arraignment and post arraignment hearings.
- All post-arraignment hearings for traffic crimes and misdemeanors including non-jury trials.
NOTE: Jury trials are only heard at the Central Courthouse.- Hearings for animal, marine, or traffic infractions, parking citations, county and municipal ordinance violations.
West County Courthouse:
Arraignment and all post-arraignment hearings for traffic crimes and misdemeanors (including domestic violence cases per the geographical jurisdiction for West County) including non-jury trials.
NOTE: Jury trials are only heard at the Central Courthouse.Hearings for animal, marine, or traffic infractions, parking citations, county and municipal ordinance violations.
- Circuit Criminal matters occurring within the geographical jurisdiction except jury trials.
Gun Club Road location:
First appearance hearings for all persons arrested in the county except within the geographical jurisdiction of West County. However, on weekends and legal holidays, West County first appearances are conducted at the Gun Club Road location.
- Juvenile detention and dependency hearings on weekends and legal holidays.
Traffic crime and misdemeanor arraignment hearings including arraignments for incarcerated defendants.
Circuit Criminal arraignments for incarcerated defendants and for defendants charged with the felony level of Driving With a Suspended License.
