E-Mail UsAn appeal of a lower court decision is a legal process by which a higher court is ask to review the trial court's record and rule on the legal issues raised by the appellant (a party to a case--in a criminal case, it is usually the defendant).
The Circuit Criminal Department of the Clerk of the Circuit Court, Fifteenth Judicial District, handles all appeals from convictions and court rulings from Circuit Criminal Court and County Criminal Court in Palm Beach County.

Attention: Appeals ClerkA Notice of Appeal must be filed within 30 days from the date of the conviction or the court ruling which is being appealed.
The cost of filing an appeal depends on the court to which the appellant is filing the appeal. The following is a list of the filing fees:
Appeal of a felony case from the Circuit Court or a Juvenile case from Juvenile Court to the 4th DCA:
4th DCA fee $300.00 per case (pay directly to the 4th DCA) Circuit Court, Clerk's fee $100.00 per case (pay directly to the Clerk of the Circuit Court) Appeal of a misdemeanor case or traffic infraction from County Court to the Circuit Court:
County Court, Clerk's fee $281.00 per case (pay directly to the Clerk of the Circuit Court) Additional fees result for the copying of the record. A bill will be sent by the Appeals clerk who is responsible for preparing the record.
